A little bit to contemplate in advance of ANGRY FAT GIRLS...
If we didn't exactly turn into the Jane Austen Book Club or the makers of an American Quilt, let alone Mornings with Each Other, we bonded nonethless from the four corners of the U.S.

And went to the Met to consider exactly what is meant by "Rubensesque".

We figured about a size 16 and wondered how she kept her breasts so perky.

And then we had our nails done...

Basic Books has changed the title of Just This Once to:

ANGRY FAT GIRLS: FIVE WOMEN, 500 POUNDS, AND A yEAR OF lOSING IT...AGAIN

I'm going on the academic job market this fall. I'm ready for a change of scenery although I know it's a possible loss to the Labradors of Brooklyn Heights.

Who would want me to come teach in their college? I have a wacky resume:

"When I last saw Richard Hugo, he asked what I was up to. I was working on my Master of Fine Arts at Cornell University, beginning to publish in the little magazines and teaching freshman courses. “You’re earning your union cards,” he said.

Well, not quite. The next natural steps were fellowships and writers’ colonies, grants and residencies, but I wanted to earn a PhD. by writing my dissertation on Anthony Trollope’s Palliser novels.

Foolish, foolish me. A year of poverty and loss of my parents’ patience resulted in looking for a real job. I went on to work in the literary agent side of publishing for the next eighteen years, selling over one hundred and fifty books. As my first book, Passing for Thin, went into a busy publication schedule, I changed affiliations to work from home. In the end, I decided that I’d had enough heartbreak as an agent.

I bring the big picture of writing, and writing for success, to any job I’m considered for. I’ve taught for seventeen years and worked in mainstream publishing. I’m a published poet and short story writer, and my memoir, Passing for Thin, garnered high praise and media attention."
